The most important thing to remember when shopping for beauty products is that just because something is expensive, it does not mean it is better. To prove this point, I have chosen one of my favorite beauty items to face off under the ultimate question, which is better? Knowing which one to pick can seem hard, but in reality, it isn’t.

Anastasia Beverly Hills

Anastasia Beverly Hills is a good brand, however, just like any other brand, it makes some mistakes. You may hear people rant and rave about these lipsticks, but I am here to tell you the truth: They are not the best.

First and foremost, the formula is extremely dry, so much so that it becomes an issue. No matter how moist and prepped you keep your lips, one coat of this and they will become bone dry, causing all sorts of problems. It makes it difficult to talk since your mouth becomes a desert, and over time, it clumps around the inside of the lips to the point where the product just flakes off.

For $20, you’d expect the brand to put a little more thought into it. Overall, on a one to five scale, I would rate this product a two. Not the worst product in the world, but it could use a lot of improvement.

Sephora

Sephora has its own beauty line, which swoops in to save the day when you are on a budget. Not only does it help save money, but many times, the products in the Sephora collection are better than the others. Why? Sephora looks at the mistakes that the other companies make with their products, and then make its own improved version. Too thick? Thin it out. Too dry? Add some oils. Too dull? Add some color.

So, after the liquid lipstick trend took off, Sephora took it upon itself to make a killer liquid lipstick – and succeeded. This liquid lipstick dries beautifully while moisturizing the lips. Infused with a variety of oils, this lipstick is matte, long-lasting, and comes in a plethora of colors. The only thing that I do not love is the stain attribute. Not only is it a liquid lipstick, but it is a stain. And for those of us who do not have extremely defined lips, we tend to mess up our lipstick the first time. This lipstick is virtually impossible to remove without makeup remover, making it very difficult to fix any smudges.

Overall, the product has great color and moisture, it stays on for a long time and smells like vanilla. On a scale of one to five, I give it a four.
