Paraquad will present the 2017 Shine the Light Awards on Tuesday, April 4, at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis. The event starts at 6 p.m. with presentation of the awards scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. The Missouri History Museum and sammysoap will be recognized as Shine the Light Award winners.A dedication to creating accessible exhibits for people with disabilities earned the Missouri History Museum an award.

Former Gov. Jay Nixon will be the recipient of this year’s Legacy of Excellence Award. Throughout his political career, Nixon championed rights and opportunities for people with disabilities. He launched the Partnership for Hope, which provides earlier access to home- and community-based services for Missourians with disabilities and their families. He also supported the ABLE act, which increases Medicaid asset limits to allow people with disabilities and their families to establish savings accounts that will not affect eligibility for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, and other benefits.
Nixon will deliver a speech prepared for this event, as well.
This annual awards event “shines the light” on St. Louis area businesses, organizations, and individuals who are actively supporting disability rights, promoting equality and inclusion, and making our community more accessible for people with disabilities.
