Later this month, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis will host the Meacham Park Celebration, a free evening of art, poetry, theatre and dance performances in celebration of Kirkwood’s historic Meacham Park neighborhood.
The event at The Rep on Monday, Sept. 25, begins at 6:30 pm and is the culmination of Connecting Community through the Arts, a yearlong project undertaken by The Rep, Springboard to Learning and Webster Arts.
The project began with Nipher Middle School students interviewing Meacham Park current and former residents, as well as others connected with the community, with the assistance of a teaching artist from Springboard. The Rep and Webster Arts then delivered the students’ collected oral histories to area artists, who will adapt those stories into various creative works for the Sept. 25th event. The finished products will present unique perspectives on the neighborhood’s history.
The project, made possible by a grant from Theatre Communications Group and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, sought to collect stories from Meacham Park and bring them to life through creations from artists across the St. Louis community.
